Amos Adusei, a 37-year-old taxi driver, was fatally shot by alleged armed robbers on the Kwaman-Boaman road in the Afigya Kwabre North district of the Ashanti region.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night, leaving the local community in a state of shock.
Residents reported that while the area has experienced several robbery incidents in the past, this marks the first time a victim has been shot dead. The news has heightened fear among the inhabitants of the district.
Isaac Adusei, the Assembly member for the Ahenkro electoral area and brother to the deceased, confirmed the incident to the media. He expressed disbelief over the brutal killing of his brother.
Isaac Adusei also informed the media that the body of Amos Adusei has been taken to the morgue.
“It was yesterday [Sunday] around 11.15 that I had a call from a colleague that my brother had an accident on the Kwaman-Boaman road. So when I got there, it was not a mere accident, it was a gunshot. The armed robbers attacked him and so we took him to the hospital."
“The police came to our house and did their report. They came to our house yesterday [Sunday] and they went to the body at the mortuary and they said they would do the postmortem today [ Monday]. So after the postmortem, then they will hand [the body] to the family," he said.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
The community is urging authorities to take immediate action to improve security and prevent such tragic incidents recurring.
Residents are also calling for increased police presence and better protective measures to ensure their safety.
