The Northern Regional Women's Coalition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it would not take it kindly, if Prof. Mills fails to name a female as his running mate.
They believed women have come of age, and ready to prove to the world that they were capable of occupying higher national positions.
It iS obvious that the issue of a running mate has become a problem, not only for the NDC, but almost all the major political parties, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People's Party (CPP) and the People's National Convention (PNC). What is holding up the various flag bearers, in nomination of their running mates, was the issue of gender.
Most gender activists, at both local and international levels, are all advocating for women to be considered by the various political parties, to ensure gender equity and fairness in the decision-making processes in Ghana.
Madam Esther Fati Jebilla, spokesperson for the coalition, who led about 46 women to the offices of The Chronicle on Saturday, in Tamale, on International Women's Day, insisted that they would oppose any choice, other than a woman this time round, arguing that women formed more than half of the NDC's support base.
According to them, the NDC had capable women, who could occupy that position efficiently, in order to be groomed to become a future president of the state.
The group humbly called on Prof Mills, to be the one who would go down in history, as the first person ever, to groom a woman to occupy the highest office of Ghana.
The NDC women were of the strong conviction that Prof Mills would reason with them, and grant their request, to encourage women in the party to work even harder, to ensure victory for the flag bearer, and the party in the December elections.
According to the group, their quest to get a woman running mate was in line with their position against marginalization and suppression against women in Ghana, which they said was rampant in the last NDC regime.
They pledged to go all out to campaign for the NDC to become more attractive to floating voters, and other well-wishers, in order to widen the support base of the party.
They categorically mentioned Betty Mould Iddrisu as their choice.
On the other hand, the women threatened to vote "Skirt and Blouse," if their plea was not adhered to by Prof Mills.
"We will vote for our MPs and leave the presidential out, if Prof Mills and the National Executive Committee fail to recognize our importance," the women remarked.
