Tamale clashes: Security apparatus must be blamed

A former National Security Coordinator, Kofi Bentum Quantson, has accused the country’s security apparatus for the current political mishaps up north. He said because the security agencies have not been able to prosecute culprits of earlier political infractions, the perpetrators continue to commit political violence with impunity. Mr. Quantson said this in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Adom Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday. The former security coordinator was commenting on the escalating political tension in the northern region which has claimed at least six lives The deaths occurred during a clash between the National Democratic Congress (NPP) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters at Kpatinga, in the Gushegu District of the Northern Region. According to him the current scenario in the north has been expected long time since those who have previously committed similar acts in recent past have been left off the hook without any form of prosecution. He said when this occurs people are encouraged to commit similar atrocities with the believe that the case will get to nowhere. He noted political skirmishes in the north did not start from today as there has been a build up of political rancour adding, until the security agencies show that they can bite by prosecuting the perpetrators the northern region will continue to be in political turmoil.
