Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin says, despite the numerous interventions by the Akufo-Addo government, some Ghanaians continue to live in pain and hardship.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a workshop organised by the Majority in Parliament for NPP and members of the Executive held at the Rock City Hotel in Kwahu Nkwatia, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on the Government to accept these criticisms and work towards improving the lives of Ghanaians.
The Deputy Majority Leader said, though some of these concerns may seem exaggerated, it is incumbent on government, members of the majority and the NPP party Executive to take some of these concerns of the populace seriously.
“While these concerns are sometimes unfounded, unpalatable and unjust, there are times that they are the plain truth. By this, I mean that they are realities facing many of the people who voted us to power to serve them and our country." he said.
"I urge every one of us to see such comments, the good or bad as reminders. We have done a lot at various levels to transform our country and the economy but, there is so much work to be done," he stated.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin also reiterated the need for the Party’s communicators to tell the populace about the numerous achievements of the government.
"We must tell the good stories about the record a number of Ghanaian children who have successfully graduated from our Senior High Schools, free of charge. We must tell the compelling story of the new rail tracks being built around the country. We must tell the story about the cocoa production record we have just set. We must tell the story about the modern CHPS district hospitals being built across the country and many more.”
Meanwhile, Vice President of Republic of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia admitted that the economic hardships in the country but noted that the NPP government is resolving them.
“The hardships were there before we came into government in 2017 and we have done so much and this is an area we should not shy away from. In the area of social intervention, our government has being just marvelous. We can list and I can list at least 50 policy interventions that we have made to reduce suffering of our economy," he indicated.
