The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archebald Yao Letsa has advised the citizenry to take keen interest in ensuring a healthy heart to avoid early and needless deaths.
This, he believes would reduce the rate of deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases across the globe. He emphasized the importance of preventive health care over the mere treatment of diseases.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Top-up pharmacy in Ho, Dr. Letsa advocated a paradigm shift in personal healthcare and stressed that focusing on preventive measures can significantly reduce the burden of diseases on individuals.
"According to the World Heart Federation, at least 80% of all premature deaths brought about as a result of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by controlling four main factors such as unhealthy diets, tobacco use, lack of physical activities and excessive alcohol intake " he said.
He, therefore, entreated the public to live healthy lifestyles by maintaining their weight through proper nutrition, exercising regularly, and eschew excessive smoking which weakens the heart.
Dr. Letsa also underscored the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables, while avoiding fatty foods.
He also stressed regular health check up for chronic diseases like diabetes and Hypertension to ensure a better health outcome.
Dr. Letsa also urged pharmacy operators to protect clients' health information.
The Chief Executive Officer of Top Up Pharmacy, Dr. Richard Odor said his outfit is focused on promoting preventive health care.
"Our goal is not only to help individuals manage their existing health conditions but also to prevent future ones from occurring. We want to be proactive in promoting a healthier Volta Region", Dr. Odor added.
