According to Chief Operating Officer of Rana Motors, Kassem Odaymat, the 30 limited units of Kia Sportage which was assembled in Ghana possesses enhanced specifications, focusing on convenience and safety, built to meet demands of customers.

“Looking into the future, we are certain that Kia Sportage is ready to explore new horizons ensuring that the roads ahead are even more exciting than the ones already traveled”, he said.

As SUVs gained popularity in Ghana, the Sportage has evolved to meet the demands of local drivers. The second model introduced a monocoque platform, improving ride comfort and boosting sales significantly.

The third-generation Sportage, known for its bold Tiger Nose grille. The vehicles over the years have proven to be safe and durable with high safety standards strongly resonating with the local market.

The fourth and fifth generations have seen the addition of advanced driver assistance systems and fuel efficient engine options made for both city commutes and long distance travel across the country.

Kia Corporation has signed a Memorandum of understanding with Rana Motors Ghana to offer technical and skills development training for its workers and other players in the automotive industry.

The training programme which will be executed by the West African Vehicle Academy, will offer employees the environment to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the automotive industry.

It will also offer several technicians and trainers from service partners and other car makers both theoretical and practical applications on workshop floor, classroom and hands-on training on the use of state-of-the-art diagnostics equipment and software.

Addressing journalists at the signing ceremony, Head of Ownership Enhancement at Kia Corporation, Kwangyong Lee said this partnership symbolises a significant step towards shared commitment to the advancement of technical expertise in Ghana.

“I believe this MoU is not just about Kia Corporation and Rana Motors, it’s about the people of Ghana, the future workforce and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. This commitment underscores Kia’s dedication to nurturing a skilled workforce in Ghana, ensuring top-tier services to Kia customers at the end”.

On his part, Chief Operating Officer of Rana Motors, Kassem Odaymat mentioned that, several technicians and trainers stand the chance of benefiting immensely from this initiative.

“Several technicians and trainers and other car makers have benefited immensely as WAVA continues to offer an extensive range of technical training modules to ensure trainees and businesses have a competitive edge in the car service sector”. 

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Chief Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Patrick Nimo stated that, the MOU will cement government’s effort in ensuring Ghana becomes the preferred automotive hub within the sub-region.

Meanwhile, Kia Corporation is supporting with battery kits, tools and equipment and more importantly an electric vehicle to immediately start the training of technicians and other interest stakeholders.

In a bid to take full advantage of the automotive industry, the government in the process of developing an Automotive Component Manufacturing Development Policy.

This it believes will attract investments from component manufacturers to feed into the local automotive industry, whilst supplying aftermarket components across the sub-region.

In light of that, Ashok Leyland is seeking to accelerate and break into the top 10 global commercial vehicle market with its new generation phoenix platform.

To this end, the company has assembled its maiden Ashok Leyland Phoenix trucks here in Ghana at Rana Motors assembling plant in Accra.

Speaking to Joy Business at the launch of the new trucks, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi said the coming on board of Ashok Leyland Phoenix trucks into Ghana’s automotive industry will complement government’s effort of developing an Automotive Component Manufacturing Development policy.

“These companies are doing so well including Rana Motors are working hard as far as the policy is concerned to champion the course of government in the area of automotive development. We are sure within the shortest possible time, Ghana will become the automotive mobile hub in the sub-region”.

On his part, Head, International Operations at Ashok Leyland Rajesh R, said, the assembling of Ashok Leyland Phoenix Trucks in Ghana will afford its business partners a seamless transportation experience.

“Ashok has always been at the forefront of trading technologies for the world and we want to partner with more and more companies across the globe today. And this is the 9^th assembling plant for Ashok across the globe today”.

Some investors within Ghana’s automotive industry are asking government to explore various options in addressing the high taxes in the country, impacting on their business.

This, they say is affecting their cost of operations in the importation of components for assembling vehicles in the country.

According to Chief Operations Officer of Rana Motors, Kassem Odaymat, the prospects for the automotive industry is positive, but more work needs to be done to attract investors.

Speaking to James Eshun on the AM Business Show, he bemoaned some gaps in policy within the automotive industry.

“The automotive business as a whole, any tax introduces affects us in a way because our business model is not just assembling of cars but we do other things like tyres, car batteries and other components”.

“I won’t say there are too many gaps but we have some that need to be relooked at. The economy now is not favourable, but we hope things will be fine”, he said.

Mr Odaymat however maintained that the automotive industry in Ghana has a positive outlook and as a result, it should be attractive enough to bring in more investors.

Government in 2019 said it will offer tax breaks of up to 10 years to automakers that set up local manufacturing plants, as it seeks to attract international companies such as Volkswagen AG and Nissan Motor and co.

Ghana’s move at the time was to lure carmakers from some African countries which had attracted seven manufacturers including Renault, Nissan and Toyota with tax incentives.

 Automobile dealer, Rana Motors Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to give back to customers.

According to the Manager in charge of Sales Passengers and Light Commercial Vehicle, Sonya Gurpeet Kaur Cheema, its promotion is to appreciate the consumers and prioritize them in their operations.

Speaking to Joy Business at the presentation of prizes to winners of its official match ball carrier project, he said the company will continue to partner other stakeholders within the Ghanaian economy to expand its operations.

“We deem it right to have our other stakeholders on board to support the vision of the company. We are doing this to appreciate our customers across the country and beyond”, he said

Some winners expressed their excitement after being presented with the prizes.

For Akosua, this means a lot to her after years of working with Rana Motors and purchasing their products.

She said she will continue to work with them and deepen the relationship for future exploits.

“I am delighted I have won this today. I have been buying their products for 15 years so having this prize makes me happy”, she stated

Kwesi, an accountant revealed that, he least expected to win the ultimate because he hardly believes in such promotions.

“I wasn’t expecting this because to me such promotion doesn’t work for me”, hee maintained.

The promotion is in collaboration with Coca Cola, Adidas, Qatar airways and Caveman Watches.
