The entertainment industry might be warming up for another beef as two musicians of Ga descent have started throwing salvos at each other.

Gasmilla has replied to King Jerry’s claims that he [Gasmilla] treated him unfairly in the past, a reason he wouldn’t want to do a song with him.

King Jerry told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz in an interview that he started music before Gasmilla, Nii Funny and Luta, so if he had to feature any artiste it should be one that is bigger than him.

“I just don’t wan do collaboration with am. Right now If I go do collobration, [it should be] big artiste koraa,” he said in Pidgin English.

He added that he even featured on three songs on Gasmilla’s first album but when he also needed the ‘3 Points’ hit maker for just a song, he gave him excuses.

Meanwhile, Gasmilla has debunked all those statements by King Jerry, saying King is his ‘child’ who has received help from him on a number of occasions.

“He be my pikin. You dey understand? He be my pikin. I put am on aaaa. I put am on plenty shows. I do some Labadi show wey I put am on. I pay am. It was a paid show. That one I pay am. The events he dey talk all e no be paid events. Ebe carnivals basically to say ‘thank you to the community’l,” he told Andy in Pidgin English.

Gasmilla added that since he got into the industry he has supported a lot Ga musicians than anyone else.

“This is the first time ever in the history of Ga music wey you dey see more artistes from the Ga side penetrate. Adane Best ein time, how many artistes dey? Tinny ein time, how many Ga artistes dey? My time, I make sure say I put everybody on,” he noted.

He said as a brother, King Jerry should just had approached if he has any issue with him.

The ‘Telemo’ hit maker said that during his Abelefest concert which was held last year, he billed King Jerry but the latter failed to attend.

“Even this Abelefest that I come do, I put you on, I call you. You no pick my call. Later I make my executive assistant call you wey you charge some dough. Later we call you say we go give you some dough, you say you nogo take am. After we post all the flyers out there, that is when you come that right now you go do the show,” he added.

Gasmilla has hit songs like ‘Telemo’, ‘3Points’, ‘Aboodatoi’, ‘Odo Yewu’, among others.

One of the most vibrant Ga musicians in modern times, King Jerry, has disclosed why he wouldn’t work on a joint project with Gasmilla.

Explaining his decision on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, King Jerry said he started music before Gasmilla, Nii Funny and Luta, so if he has to feature any artiste it should be one that is bigger than him.

“I just don’t wan do collaboration with am. Right now If I go do collobration, [it should be] big artiste koraa,” he said in Pidgin English.

According to him, there are only two Ga artistes who are his seniors on the Ga music scene: Drinkables and Fresh Page.

“I be bigger koraa. Right now where I dey? E no be say we dey do challenge or something but right now me too I dey der. I dey inside before they come wey right now, I still dey inside,” he added.

It looks like government has decided to make artistes poor – Gasmilla https://www.myjoyonline.com/it-looks-like-government-has-decided-to-make-artistes-poor-gasmilla/ Fri, 12 Aug 2022 18:33:46 +0000 https://www.myjoyonline.com/?p=10032151488 As many celebrities have bemoaned the decision of the Ghana Gaming Commission to ban celebrities from endorsing betting companies, musician Gasmilla has added his voice. ]]>

Musician Gasmilla has added his voice to the campaign against the decision by the Ghana Gaming Commission to ban celebrities from endorsing betting companies.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the “Telemo” hitmaker described the decision as a deliberate effort by the government to keep celebrities financially handicapped.

“For me the first time I heard it I just understood why artistes in Ghana are in this state they are in. It looks like government has decided to make artistes poor. It’s like an intentional thing they are doing to create poverty, to control the media or to control artistic people.

“You will tell a betting company not to sign an artiste in Ghana but then that same betting company can sign an artiste from Nigeria. So they are taking the money and our tax money to pay someone else in Nigeria where we do not get to benefit,” he told Doreen Avio on Daybreak Hitz.

He explained that he lost a deal with a betting company that planned on partnering him to embark on developmental projects in some communities.

“I tried to work with somebody and he loved the things that I was doing within the community. He said he owns a betting company and I would like to put you in contact with the General Manager and see if you guys can do something because they also want to have activations in the community.

“I said why not. If they are going to help the community and develop the community, that’s what I am for. Now the guy calls and he’s like we’ve been told by the government not to sponsor musicians. If you control what a man eats, you control him.”

In 2020, the Ghana Gaming Commission banned betting companies from using celebrities in their marketing campaigns or as brand ambassadors.

The Commission claims that the decision was made because more celebrities were sponsoring betting companies, which could entice young fans into gambling.

Singer Odartei Milla Lamptey, popularly known as Gasmilla, says he had no choice but to sell his Range Rover because it was a liability.

According to the ‘Telemo’ hitmaker, he could not keep up with the car’s maintenance hence had to put it up for sale.

In a recent interview, Gasmilla revealed he noted the difference between a liability and an asset after he realised the amount of money he was spending on the car.

“Nothing happened. Do you know the difference between an asset and a liability? If you have a Range and no money coming through, it will f**k you up. You can follow fashion but know a vehicle that doesn’t put money in your pocket is a liability.”

Gasmilla also said he doesn’t like to drive, adding that, it is another reason he opted for Uber’s ride-hailing service.

“Car itself… my stepdad used to say it’s a necessity but I think the ability to move is rather a necessity, not a particular car model. I like to be driven.”

“But, if I can’t have that and I can have a mini and it’s an Uber, that’s cool. We worry ourselves sometimes. We have to live our lives. The people praise you for only one day after getting a new car the rest is up to you,” he said.

Gasmilla says he is open to collaborating with any artiste including Sarkodie, to reinvent the forgotten Azonto genre.

He told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz that although he does not believe Azonto music died, he is happy other artistes are finally looking back to it.

“…I am glad that my brothers and sisters finally woke up to the fact that our way to the international world is Azonto,” he said.

Gasmilla explained, he believes the Azonto is a Ghanaian thing hence it will take all hands on deck to ignite it again.

“Our Nigerian brothers are not willing to share in the Afrobeats with us. Because we didn’t share the Azonto with the world, they took a narrative that projected Fella Kuti as the father of Afrobeats. But the Afrobeats sound they are talking about is not Fela’s sound,” he stated.

He added that Nigerians are, however, resolved to push the version of the Afrobeats sound further.

Gasmilla urged Ghanaians to make the #BringAzontoBack agenda a successful one, to give Ghana one celebrated music genre like Afrobeats and other genres including Hip-hop Reggae, Dancehall and others.

From DJs to producers, artistes and the music industry, the success of the Azonto genre can benefit them all, he stated.

“God has given us a second chance with this and we shouldn’t mess it up. We should make sure we document it, do everything right and push it as a brand.”
