Some disgruntled supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Aowin Constituency of the Western North Region have set the party’s office on fire over a decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to have the recent elections run again.

Their agitations follow attempts by the Council to conduct the constituency elections again due to alleged irregularities that characterised the process.

But the supporters, who are unhappy about the decision, say they will resist any attempt for the elections to be reorganised.

The NPP’s constituency elections turned chaotic in some parts of the country as party members threatened to halt the process.

One of the notable spots was the Okaikoi South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region where over 413 names were alleged to have been deleted from the register.

The aggrieved delegates added that people from other constituencies were rather included in the register to partake in the exercise.

They also alleged that some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were added to increase the fortunes of some aspirants.

In a related development, the election was suspended in the Yendi constituency of the Northern Region due to confusion over which album to use in conducting the elections.

The matter was referred to the Party’s steering committee to be discussed for a new date to be announced.

Meanwhile, delegates of the Party expressed disappointment over the development.

They also accused some top officials in the Party of manipulating the electoral process to favour their candidates.

Paramount Chief of Aowin Traditional Area, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III, has appealed to the government to fix major roads in the municipality which are in bad shape.

He lamented that the Enchi-Elubo road is one of such of the routes which has been in dire need of construction for decades.

The chief shared this concern with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who had visited Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region as part of his 3-day working visit.

Benbuin III expressed gratitude for the lucrative initiatives that had been undertaken in the country stated they are looking forward to their fair share of developmental projects in this new region.

“As a little boy, I cannot describe the images that were conjured up in my mind anytime we were told the government was going to build that road.

“Such an international road, such a major highway with its overwhelming significance to the people of Aowin and its contribution to the country’s economy. It makes it difficult to understand why it has been left unconstructed for such a long time,” he said.

As part of government’s decentralisation of project, a feeder roads office was allocated for construction at Aowin Municipality for work in at Enchi.

However, the Paramount Chief asked that these developments be narrowed to Aowin.

“So far, we are pleased with the Feeder Roads office allocated to Aowin. But like the proverbial Oliver Twist, we would definitely like to have a bit more to accelerate the development of our new region in general, and Aowin in particular”, he said.

Nana Tano Benbuin promised the President of erecting a befitting monument in his honour to express their unending appreciation when the Enchi-Elubo see a facelift.

Meanwhile, the Road and Highway Minister Kwaku Amoako Atta told the chiefs and their people that President Akufo-Addo has cut sod for the construction of 71.23km Enchi-Ellubo road.

He said the project has been awarded to Top International Company Limited and assured them of a facelift of the road as contractors have come to site.

Mr Kwaku Amoako Atta promised to complete the road construction within the 42 months duration and the necessary support from the government shall also be provided.

However, police have begun a manhunt for the two leaders.

Supt. Akotoge explained those arrested claims have a contractual agreement with Crisphil Goldfield, a Ghanaian Mining Company who owns a mining Concession in the area.

When Crisphil Goldfield was contacted to ascertain the truth in the claims made by the six people, management the mines denied having anything to do with HK Zingding.
