Ghanaian swimmer Abeiku Jackson has set sights on qualifying to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
The 2016 Rio Olympian in an interview with Joy Sports, revealed he has 'trained hard and worked hard towards' the qualifiers scheduled for this month.
Abeiku won four gold medals when he competed in the national swimming championship organised by the Ghana Swimming Association and the Trust Emporium this past weekend.
“I have trained hard, work hard,” Abeiku revealed.
“I managed to win four gold medals, but that's not my target.
“My aim was not today, my aim is not next month, my aim is to go to Olympics and make my country proud.” He stated.
About 170 swimmers joined the Olympics free stylist at the Trust Sports Emporium as they prepare for the impending 7th Africa Cana Zone 2 Senior Swimming Championship slated for 5th to 8th March 2020.
One of the swimmers, Maaya Ayawere, considered as one of Ghana's brightest spots, won four gold medals.
She told Joy Sports working extra hard would help improve in her categories.
“I have done better before,' unhappy Maaya began 'this was not my best, but I will just go back to training, work hard and hopefully it will improve but am quite content with what I have done,” She said.
The Trust Sports Emporium is one of a kind for swimmers in the country, and national team Coach, Abbiw Jackson, who is also the father of Abeiku Jackson, talked its importance for the sport.
'You cannot ask for anything better than this facility.' He said.
'This is the best facility that we have in the country at the moment and we thank SSNIT and Trust Emporium for putting up this facility. It's very good for the fine-tuning of the swimmers."
Coach Jackson and his team will be hoping to book as many tickets as possible for the Tokyo Olympic Games when 22 West African countries assemble in Ghana at the 7th CANA Zone 2 Senior Swimming Championship next month.
