A suspected armed robber has been knocked down and killed by a running vehicle on the Mpaha road in the Central Gonja district of the Savannah Region.
The incident happened at dawn on Tuesday while the vehicle, a Benz bus with registration number GR 4336 D was en route to Mpaha from Buipe.
The deceased is believed to be among a gang of robbers that ambush vehicles and travellers who ply the route.
This time, however, he met his untimely death while attempting an attack.
The vehicle, with unspecific number of passengers was traveling from the Buipe market to Mpaha when the driver spotted two Fulani extraction hiding in the nearby bush.
One of the armed robbers with a shotgun suddenly emerged from the bush and shot into the windscreen of the vehicle.
The driver, who was bent on saving his life and that of his passengers run into one of them in an attempt to escape the shot, killing him instantly while the other armed fled into a nearby bush.
Some of the passengers on board, however, sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to TTH for treatment.
According to the Central Gonja police, one shotgun, 3 BB live cartridges and one spent cartridge were found in the deceased possession and has been retrieved.The accident vehicle has also been towed to Buipe police station.
Meanwhile the body of the suspected robber has been conveyed to Tamale Teaching hospital mortuary.
