A team of police officers from the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and SWAT from the Accra region has conducted an intelligence-led operation to arrest some suspects.
According to the police, Monday's operation was to arrest the robbers who are said to be part of suspects who are wanted in the Takoradi Market Circle robbery and murder.
DSP Olivia Adiku, the Western Regional Police PRO, said the police closed in on the suspects at Elmina, along Cape Coast-Takoradi road.
"The robbers engaged the police in a gun fire battle, in the process one of the robbers by name Shakiki, who is aged about 30 years-old was gunned down," she said.
She added that two others managed to escape on a motorbike.
According to her, "one motorbike blue in colour with registration M-20 GW 6060 with the last zero covered with a sticker to read GW 606 was recovered from the scene. The police later located the hideout of the suspects and a search was conducted."
She confirmed that one spent AK-47 ammunition, a live tortoise and a talisman were recovered at the hideout.
DSP Olivia Adiku further added that a suspect the police met at the hideout identified himself as Fuseini Inusah.
The 25-years-old has been arrested for interrogation.
The body of the deceased suspect has been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
She said efforts are underway to arrest those on the run for interrogation.
