The Chief Advisor to the President, Dr (Mrs) Mary Chinery-Hesse, on Wednesday lauded the continued outpouring of support for the flood victims in the three northern regions by Ghanaians outside the affected areas, saying this was a demonstration of the unity of the nation.
The fellow feeling shown by people outside the flooded areas demonstrated the unity of the country and "this is significant", she said, when receiving a cheque for 1,500 GH cedis and second hand clothing for the victims at the Castle, Osu.
It was a donation from the Zonta Clubs in Accra and Tema.
Zonta is a global organisation of women business executives and professionals working to advance the cause of women and children.
Mrs Chinery-Hesse, who chairs the Inter-Ministerial Task Force overseeing the distribution of relief items and the re-engineering of the development of the flooded areas, promised that the money and clothing would be used for good purpose.
Mrs Charity Bentsi-Enchill, President of Accra One Zonta Club, said they were touched by the plight of the victims and wanted to empathise with them.
She expressed the hope that the donation would help to bring a bit of comfort to the affected people.
