President Akufo-Addo has assured the chiefs and people of Sunyani of his government's determination to continue to develop the Bono Regional capital.
Speaking at a gathering of the chiefs at the Sunyani Traditional Council to commence his two-day working visit to the region, he said all their developmental concerns would be addressed.
The Krontihene of the Sunyani traditional area, Oboaman Bofotia Boamponsem, speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawri II, thanked the President and his government for the numerous ongoing projects.
These, he said, include the Synohydro project, under which the Sunyani Ring Road is being constructed, Millennium City projects, the ongoing Sunyani Yawhima road, among others.
He, however, appealed for more development related projects to be undertaken. These are; the upgrading of the regional hospital to a teaching hospital, adding a medical school to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), completion of the pedestrian walkway at the Sunyani high court, a befitting sports stadium in Sunyani, among others.
On his part, President Akufo-Addo said roads in Sunyani are dear to his heart, thus he will see to the successful completion of the road projects.
"Sod has been cut for the $200,000,000 Sunyani water expansion project, funds have already been secured while procurement is ongoing. Very soon the project will start to ease the water challenge for the people in and around the Sunyani municipality."
"I know having a Sports Stadium is dear to the people of Sunyani and we are working on it. Hopefully, it should be done before I leave the seat," he assured the chiefs.
He thanked the people of Sunyani for their support in the 2020 general elections.
President Akufo-Addo said though the NPP won the elections, it was not as recorded in the 2016 general elections, hence appealed to the chiefs and people to ensure they vote massively for the NPP in the 2024 elections.
"Some political parties have been talking, but we all know that the only party capable of developing the country, is the NPP", he said.
The President also said attempts continue to be made to smear his government, but he assured the people that they will not succeed.
He further said more citizens of the region will continue to serve in his government. The President announced Sunyani East MP, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh as the new Board Chairman for Bui Power Authority.
The President's two-day working visit will also take him to the chiefs and people of Berekum, Wamfie, Odumase, and Chiraa. He will also inspect projects and commission the WADDI Africa Tomato Processing Factory and Agro Farms in the Berekum West district under the 1D1F.
Joining the President for the tour is the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Deputy Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawyer Alfred Tuah Yeboah, the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu-Banahene, Deputy National Secretary Nana Obiri Boahen, Bono regional chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, Kofi Ofosu Boateng, the Regional Secretary, and other high ranking officials.
