Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Defence, on Monday inspected projects at the Fourth Battalion of Infantry and facilities at the sub-units of the Four Garrison in Kumasi.
The Minister also held discussions with the Officers and men of the Garrison.
He was accompanied by Brigadier-General Joseph Narh Adinkrah, General Officer Commanding (GOC), the Northern Command, Brigadier-General, Joseph Mensah Ayettey, Director General, Medical Service, Colonel Nana Acheampong, Director, Engineering Services and Mr. Ofosu Appiah, Chief Director, Ministry of Defence.
Mr.Kan-Dapaah and the officers also visited the 2 Field Workshop, the 4 Supply Depot, the 2 Field Ordinance Company and the Armed Forces Museum.
He told journalists that the Ministry was committed to providing sufficient accommodation and other facilities for the Garrison to enable it to provide adequate security for the people.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah also said the Ministry was making efforts to rehabilitate other buildings to accommodate all personnel.
The Minister said he would ensure that the Ministry stood up to the challenges that had been assigned it towards nation building.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah said he was committed to working towards the development of the Armed Forces to enable it to provide strong pillars for democratic dispensation and ensure national peace and security.
He urged the Media to ensure cordial relations between civilians and the Armed Forces by investigating allegations made against the Armed Forces and coming out with the truth at all times.
Brigadier-General Adinkrah said the military still operated on the land behind the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) because it had properties there.
He said until the facilities were provided at the Fourth Battalion of Infantry, the military would continue to operate there.
Mr. Appiah dismissed current media reports that the military was collapsing and said over 30,000 young men and women applied to join the Army but about 1,200 were enlisted and that the Military was still popular with the youth.
