A sub-chief of the Nungua Traditional Area, Nii Bubui Kakai IV, who resides in the Spintex area in Accra has found himself in the firm grips of the law on the charge of fraudulent sale of land.
Nii Bubui Kakai IV was alleged to have collected GH¢14,OOO from one Mary Ete and sold a parcel of land to her. It came to light later that the accused had already sold that same plot of land to other people.
An Accra circuit court, presided over by Mr C.A. Wilson, has granted Nii Bubui Kakai IV bail in the sum of GH¢5000 with a surety.
According to Chief Inspector J.K. Anim who is the prosecutor, the complainant, Mary. Ete, is a pensioner based at Baatsona, Accra, while the accused is a sub-chief of the Nungua Traditional Area and resides on the Spintex Road, Accra. .
He said Mary had information concerning plots of land being offered for sale by the complainant at East Legon near the Trassaco Valley, off the Accra-Tema Motorway.
The prosecutor added that Mary contacted Nii Bubui Kakai IV and Nii Bubui Kakai IV agreed to sell five plots of land to her at GH¢14,OOO.
After inspecting the plots Mary paid the money to Nii Bubui Kakai IV. However, when she went to develop the land, she was prevented from doing so by some security men from Trassaco Company who claimed that the plots had been sold to Trassaco Company.
Chief Inspector Anim stated further that Mary contacted Nii Bubui Kakai IV concerning what the security men had told her and Nii Bubm Kakai IV admitted having sold the plots to Trassaco Company and promised to give her some other plots.
He said Nii Bubui Kakai IV later asked some members of his family to replace the land for Mary at a location about 500 metres away from the old plots.
The prosecutor said the new plots were given to Mary and she later sent several trips of stone and sand to start her project. While at the site, one Kyeremateng also claimed the new plots given to Mary belonged to him and he brought out all his documents to buttress his claim.
Chief Inspector Anim added that Mary, not satisfied with the developments, made a report to the police and Nii Bubui Kakai IV was arrested. In his statement to the police, he admitted the offence of fraudulent sale of land and refunded GH¢7,000 out of the money to the complainant.
