Students and pupils in basic schools in the Old-Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have been advised to be law-abiding.
Mr. Suraaka Saani, Old-Tafo Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said they should be obedient and strive to abide by the schools’ rules and regulations at all times.
This was a prerequisite to promoting discipline in the educational institutions, he noted and enjoined the youth to demonstrate utmost respect to the elderly in the society.
Mr. Saani, addressing a ‘Constitution Week’ celebration at the Old-Tafo Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School (JHS), observed that the nation’s constitution required the youth to conform to the values and norms of the Ghanaian people.

The Week, being marked by the NCCE on the theme, “We are One, Ghana First”, is to reinforce the call to all citizens, both young and old, to consider the country first in everything they do.
It is designed to instill and promote unity and national cohesion as enshrined in Article 35 (5) of the 1992 Constitution while prohibiting discrimination and prejudice on the grounds of one’s place of origin, gender, or religion.
The Municipal NCCE Office, in commemorating the Week, had so far engaged about twenty basic schools, including Father Krische R/C JHS, Old-Tafo Methodist Model JHS, Saint Benedict R/C JHS, and Church of Christ Standard JHS.
The rest are Al-Azaria Islamic JHS, Old-Tafo Methodist ‘A’ JHS and Old-Tafo Methodist ‘B’ Primary School.
Mr. Saani, highlighting the theme, stressed the need for the youth to cherish good neighbourliness, respect the rights of others and also participate in national assignments, including clean-up exercises.
He cautioned them to abstain from hard drugs and alcohol while working assiduously to protect and safeguard the environment to contribute to the wellbeing of the community in which they lived.
