The Director of Education of the Kassena-Nankana District in the Upper East Region, Edward. L. Puruse has cautioned parents and guardians in the Region who withdraw their female daughters from school for marriages for economic gains to desist from that act or else the law would deal with them drastically. He sounded the caution during the celebration of this year's "Yongo" festival by the people of the Kandiga-Kurugu community to express thanks to God and their ancestors for abundant harvest and blessing. The District Director stated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the law enforcement agencies would deal drastically with any parent who defied the law by withdrawing their daughters from school for marriage. He explained that parents could gain more than the bride price they collect now if they allowed their daughters to complete their education. " Your Daughters could be gainfully employed if you support and allow them to complete their education and would, in turn support you the better and even build more mansions for you", he added. The Assemblyman for the Area, Mr. Amenga-Etego, urged the government to concentrate more in the rural areas when pursuing development agenda since that was one of the means that could help bridge the gap of development between the urban and the rural areas. He appealed to the Kassena-Nankana District Assembly to liaise with the Ghana Health Service to post health personnel to the community health post in the area to facilitate and enhance health care delivery. Mr. Amenga -Etego who is also legal and development consultant expressed regret about the lack of many social amenities in the Kandiga-Kurugu communities and appealed to the Government to provide the area with more boreholes, dams, schools and electricity.
