Stop taking bribes – K.K Marfo

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Dr. K.K. Marfo, has noted with great concern about the conduct of some police personnel which have been dragging the good name of the service into the mud. Dr. Marfo was speaking at the official launch of Dig soft project for the Ghana Police Service in Accra. Throwing a challenge to all Police Officers, Dr. Marfo emphasized that the work of the police is to maintain peace and tranquility to help in the development of the country. But some police officers have resorted to collection of bribes as well as aiding and abetment of crimes. He said such behaviour is a disgrace to the profession and as such personnel who find pleasure in it must be brought to book and severely dealt with. According to him, there had been a lot of complains coming from all quarters of the country alleging some police officers have become a threat to the society by condoning and conniving with criminals to commit various atrocities. "We are aware, and are investigating all allegations levelled against some police men and women who are perpetrators of drug peddling as well as human rights abuses,” he noted. Dr Marfo added that some have also been taking money from drivers on our roads, which he said, is contributing to the indiscipline on our roads. “They will be drastically dealt with without any fear or favour." he cautioned. He however urged the media, the public and all stakeholders to report any unlawful act of any police officer without any hesitation. He challenged all police officers to be up and doing and also change their attitude for the betterment of the service. "We need real change and focus with professionalism and that is the only way to reduce crime rate in the country," he said. The seminar is expected to enhance the police professionalism and put away certain behaviours that dent the image of the police service. Source: The Ghanaian Voice
