Stop illegal escorts – police

The Police Administration has said it will not accept the situation where individuals engage in unlawful escort services. It said it was illegal for private motorbikes to be used for escort services in the country. The Police Administration is therefore calling on all political parties to take note of this and comply accordingly. A statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Kwesi Ofori, said the use of siren was limited to a few personalities and institutions, including the Head of State, some state officials, the Police, the Fire Service, the Armed Forces and providers of some medical services. The statement, which was in response to the welcome ceremony at the Kotoka International Airport for Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the 2008 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), reminded the public to respect the Public order Act, which enjoined any group of persons to notify the police at least five days before holding any public event. It noted that the organizers of the welcome procession failed to inform the police, compelling the police to undertake an emergency plan to manage the crowd. It denied that the police provided escort services for Nana Akufo-Addo. "The police went in to maintain law and order after its attention was drawn to chaotic scenes at the Kotoka International Airport," it added. Source: Daily Graphic
