Madam Comfort Afua Amootey, mother of Black Stars Captain Stephen Appiah has called on Ghanaians to support the campaign against the eradication of malaria in the Country.
She said the disease if not eradicated would deprive the country of her ardent footballers and leaders.
Madam Amootey made the call at a ceremony at Abandze in the Central Region on Friday at which she was made an “Ambassador” of the campaign being championed by ‘Add Your Voice Now’, a Non-Governmental Organization that uses sports and mothers of Black Stars players as a tool to campaign against the disease.
Mothers of Micheal Essien, Afful Harrison, Laryea Kingston, Richard Kingson, Sulley Muntari and Eric Bekoe are among the ‘Ambassadors’, championing the campaign against the disease.
Madam Amootey asked all mothers to spearhead the campaign and also observe environmental hygiene to protect themselves and their children against the disease and in order not to contract it.
She advised all the people to seek early treatment at the hospital when ever they detect the disease.
Madam Amootey also called on Ghanaians to offer their support to the Black Stars to enable them to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive of Add Your Voice Now, appealed to other Non-Governmental Organizations, religious bodies and institutions to support the campaign and make Ghana malaria free by 2015.
Mr Joseph Entsuah Mensah, former Assemblyman for Atifi Ahenbrom advised the youth to organize clean up exercises in their communities as a prelude to make the campaign to succeed.
