Members of the Renewable Energy for Communities Coalition (RE4C) gathered in Accra for their General Assembly.
It was the first in-person edition for the year. The event, which took place at the Grand Star Hotel in Haatso on April 16, saw members from various organisations deliberate on the activities for the rest of the year.
Members took turns to outline ways through which they were going to contribute to the commitment to promoting renewable energy solutions for sustainable communities.
The programme was graced by the Head of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Gyimah.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Gyimah emphasized the importance of the coalition towards reaching the country’s renewable energy mix target of 10% by 2030.
While acknowledging that more needs to be done, he was hopeful that RE4C’s efforts can ramp up the government’s efforts in making it a reality.
According to him, the capacity of corporate social organizations such as this has a unique place in mobilizing support for sustainability.
He further emphasised the Ministry’s willingness to provide the needed assistance to drive the agenda.
Managing Partner at FiveSixFive, Maame Ekua Gaisey, also drove a discussion on how to strengthen the coalition. Mrs Gaisey was resolute that the purpose of any organization must be clear-cut and personal as well.
This, she believes, is something that must be entrenched, coupled with setting the right values and the commitment to follow through.
The value of human resources, trust, decision-making, and planning all go hand-in-hand when it comes to the attainment of effective results, per her argument.
The coalition is made up of over 20 CSOs in Ghana. Critical members of these groups who were present at the Haatso meeting deliberated on the coalition’s line-up for the months ahead.
Administrative Secretary for 350 Ghana Reducing our Carbon (350GROC), Patricia Odeibea Bekoe, recounted some key moments of the past year including campaigns, goals, objectives, thematic areas, and projects executed.
350GROC’s National Coordinator, Portia Adu Mensah, also led a discussion on current RE4C projects and initiatives.
Other members also weighed in on various ways through which the scheduled campaigns can be realized.
Lovans Takye spearheaded a perusal of the coalition’s new constitution. There were also deliberations on funding opportunities and the screening of the recent documentary ‘The Renewable Charge’.
