Bottom-placed Premier League side, Sporting Mirren, were held to a two all drawn game by the Liberty Professionals in the 15th Week Premier League match played at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, on Thursday.
Mirren took the lead in the 16th minute through Komi Achite, when he connected home Nicholas Coffie’s cross after the Liberty goalie punched the ball in his way, after both sides had battled for supremacy in the first quarter of the game.
They managed to hold on to the lead till the close of the first half, even though they made efforts to increase the tally, whilst Liberty also launched occasional raids into the defence of Mirren in search for the equalizer, which never came.
Liberty’s Richard Kissi got the equalizer in the first minute of the second half, when he pounced on a cross delivered by Emmanuel Osei to easily slot home the ball.
After the equalizer they sustained the pressure on the home team and got another goal four minutes later through substitute Tuaha Khamix.
Mawuli Tuglo who had all day been a tormentor in the defence of Mirren, wove his way into the defence of his opponents and located Khamix with a directed cross, which the latter wasted no time in tapping in the ball.
With an eminent defeat staring at them, Mirren made several efforts at finding the equalizer and created series of scoring chances but failed to covert them.
Substitute Frank Boateng of Mirren saw his well taken free-kick hit the crossbar in the 73rd minute, with Achite failing to make use of a rebound.
Liberty’s Latif Salifu also had keeper Tetteh Luggard at his mercy in the 77th minute but the petit striker shot feebly to deny his side an extension of the lead, with Boateng again missing a perfect scoring opportunity in the 81st minute.
Mirren, however, got rewards for their efforts in the 85th minute, when they were awarded a penalty after David Addo brought down Larbi Coomson in the vital goal area.
Achite converted it for Mirren to put his side level, to eventually end the day on an even score.
