Specialized gold jewelry fair opens Friday

A three-day exhibition of indigenous Ghanaian gold jewelry and a gold jewelry fashion show opens at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday. Dubbed ‘Gold Statement 2008’, the fair organized by Rapport Services, is under the auspices of the Ministries of Trade and Industry, PSD & PSI and Tourism and Diasporan Relations. The fair seeks to group under one roof buyers of Jewelry, marketers, designers, investors in jewelry, goldsmiths and Tourists and will feature a workshop for stakeholders in the gold jewelry industry, exhibition of indigenous Ghanaian gold jewelry, and a gold jewelry fashion show. A statement signed by the C.E.O. of Rapport Services, Judy Nakuor Crayem, announcing the programme said official ceremonies to open the fair would be held by 9am to pave way for the opening of the main exhibition. Day One will also feature an exhaustive seminar on gold – its history, industry, processes, products and potential - to be addressed by seasoned industry players. “Golden Statement 2008 takes the crusade to the next level; after raising awareness of the apparently forgotten sector of the trade, the event will now gather all the stakeholders and begin to take steady measurable steps towards reigniting the jewelry manufacturing sector of the industry. “It will also provide yet another opportunity to buyers, marketers, investors fashion designers and tourists to have a firsthand insight into some of the indigenous mining and jewelry making processes and to see an inexhaustible array of ancient Ghanaian creative designs in jewelry,” the statement said. Saturday will see the continuation of the exhibition and sales, with a dinner and jewelry fashion show accompanied by a live band slated for the Evening. While admission to the exhibition is free, patrons of the seminar and fashion show are expected to pay GH¢50 for double and GH¢30 single. September 7, the final day will feature jewelry clinics on repairs and polishing and lots fun.
