The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has encouraged chiefs and traditional leaders to actively engage in the political discourse leading up to the 2024 general elections.
Speaking after being enstooled as Nana Adasuoko I by the Suma Traditional Council in Suma-Ahenkro, Bono Region, Mr Bagbin urged traditional authorities to contribute to shaping the political narrative.
However, he advised against engaging in unhealthy partisan politics with divisive tendencies.
“As we are at the threshold of an election year, I will encourage Nananom not to remain quiet when it comes to the political conversations that are critical to our democratic development, and our peace and security.
‘We must all help to shape the political discourse of this country to ensure that it feeds into the hopes and aspirations of our people” he said.
The enstoolment ceremony, part of the 2023 Annual Suma Royal Retreat and Crusade, was attended by the Paramount Chief and President of the Suma Traditional Area, Odeneho Dr Affram Brempong III, who praised Speaker Bagbin for his leadership and advocacy in preserving culture, values, traditions, and customs in Ghana.
In response, Mr Bagbin emphasised the importance of traditional rulers in upholding peace and security in the country while fulfilling their civic responsibilities.
