Spain have appointed Julen Lopetegui, former FC Porto manager and Spain U21 coach, as their national side's new manager.

He succeeds Vicente del Bosque as manager after the former Real Madrid coach stepped down after the Euro 2016 finals having led the country to World Cup success in 2010 and the European Championship title in 2012.

He is due to be paraded at a media conference in Madrid at 5:30pm (BST).

Julen Lopetegui, 49, managed Porto between the close season of 2014 until January this year.

They reached last last eight of the Champions League in 2015, but were crushed 6-1 by Bayern Munich, the club's heaviest defeat in European competition.

He also coached the Spanish Under-21 side, Spain's Under-20s and Under-19s leading the country to the UEFA U19 title in 2012 and UEFA U21 championship a year later.

He spent a year with Real Madrid Castilla after his coaching career began with spell running Rayo Vallecano in 2003.

Former goalkeeper Lopetegui, who earned one Spanish cap, played for Logrones and Rayo, and made a handful of apparances for for Real Madrid, Las Palmas and Barcelona.

Lopetegui had been linked with a move to Wolves in the Championship.
