South Africa’s Minister for Agriculture, Angela Thokozile Didiza will be leading a delegation to Ghana during this year’s Farmers’ Day Celebration.
According to the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Grace Mason, this feeds into the broader scope of the African Union Agenda for 2022, which is targetted at achieving food security on the continent.
“During the Farmers’ Day Week Celebration, we will have the South African Minister of Agriculture who will be bringing a delegation of South African farmers because we feel the opportunities are here. Africa has arable lands and at the apex of the economies is agriculture which feeds into the African Union Agenda 2022, ensuring food security,” she said.
Speaking at a networking cocktail by the Ghana South Africa Business Chamber and the Ghana Netherlands Business and Culture Council, President of the Ghana South Africa Business Chamber, Grant Weber said Ghana must do things differently to help end the economic challenges in the country.
He stressed that government must move away from just throwing money at challenges in the agriculture sector and engage key stakeholders in agribusiness.
He urged government to put in place measures that will help stabilize the cedi to enable businesses plan for the future.
“Speaking for a business community, I want to see government doing something visible. Whatever interventions must be seen by the man in the streets. We really don’t see any actions by government and if there are any, I believe they are merely cosmetic and not far reaching enough,” he stated.
