South Africa’s BGirl Courtnae Paul and Bboy Smith from Benin emerged as Champions of Afrobreak International Championship Africa Finals 2024.

This year’s event goes down in the record books as the biggest dance event in Africa, in terms of the number of countries represented. 

The three day event began with a workshop themed “the impact of Breaking after Olympics in Africa,” which saw esteemed performers such as, Bgirl Vee from South Africa, the only female Olympic judge on the African continent, France’s Bboy Lilou, a multiple world champion and Bgirl Syssy, World Youth Breaking Champion, as speakers.

The 2v2 dance competition and the kids battle were the main highlights of day 2, before the main event took center stage on the final day. 

The battle for the top (8) eight in the female category was between the defending champion Sandrine (Benin), Cruxy (Nigeria), Neeja (Togo), Courtnae Paul (South Africa), Vibe (Nigeria), Tris Noami (Ghana ), Change (Angola ) and Vikz (Ghana). 

An intense contest saw South Africa’s Courtnae Paul emerge the new African Bgirl Champion.

The male contest followed similar fashion with a high level of competition, which saw dancers from Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Togo, Benin, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria. 

After heated battles in the round of 16, quarter finals and semi finals, the grand finale was between Delkrim from Côte d’Ivoire and Benin’s Smith, with the latter getting the nod from the panel of judges to claim the big prize.

Nana Tufour Okai (Bboy Lyricx), the president of the Breaking Federation of Ghana confirmed that this year’s winners will represent Africa at Battle De Valux in France 2025.
