Some soldiers deployed to a galamsey area in Bole, Savannah Region, are alleged to have brutalised Yakubu Mahama, the Vice Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The soldiers were reportedly sent to protect Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities in the area. A confrontation ensued when Yakubu Mahama allegedly requested to meet the leader of the team.
As the scuffle escalated, Yakubu Mahama’s brother contacted the NPP Secretary for Bole-Bamboi, who arrived at the Bole Police Station with a group of young men. This intervention reportedly worsened the situation.
In the ensuing chaos, the soldiers allegedly fired gunshots and assaulted Yakubu Mahama. The NPP Vice Regional Chairman suffered injuries from the encounter.
In response, Yakubu Mahama’s brother issued a stern warning to the soldiers, stating that such actions would not be tolerated in the future.
