The Executive Director of Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, Nana Kofi Adu-Nsiah, has said government would not renege on its policy of developing the Kyabobo National Park (KNP) in the Nkwanta district into a world-class tourism and resource enclave.
Nana Adu-Nsiah gave the assurance at the second Memorial Martyrs Day service for two members of staff of the KNP - Ntim Obofuor and Paul Wanede - who were gunned down by unknown assailants at the Park on July 11, 2005.
He said the gazette of the Park could not be published for compensation due to flaws inherent in the valuation report, which was being investigated and appealed to the people to cooperate with the agencies doing the re-assessment.
He said the KNP belonged to the protected areas referred to as the Eastern Circuit, marked for tourism development, including the Achimota Forest, Shai Hills, Kalakpa, Amedzofe, Afadzato and Wli areas, which are noted for their rear species, reach ecology, abundance of flora and fauna, genetic and ecosystem, could serve as a research resource.
Mr John Nada, Zonal Wildlife Manager in charge of the Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regions announced that Brewaniase and Pusupu areas in the Nkwanta district had applied to be included in the protected pact to conserve their forests resources.
Mr Joseph Denteh, Nkwanta District Chief Executive, pledged government's support towards realizing the dreams of the Park.
Mr Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, appealed to the people to expose the culprits and urged the management of the KNP to name monuments in the Park after the slain staff and institute a foundation to take care of their families.
