The iron rods belong to Bedrock Ventures Company a construction company based in Cape Coast. They were each granted 60 million cedis bail and would re-appear on Tuesday June 12. In the dock with them for alleged dishonestly receiving, were John Ewuse 27 and Dick Della 27 both store keepers, who were each, granted 30 million bail to re-appear on the same date. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court presided over by Beresford Acquah, that for sometime now, there has been a series of thefts of building materials, especially of iron rods, at the UCC campus where the company is putting up some buildings. He said as a result, the storekeeper on site who was the complainant, asked the employees to be on the look out for the perpetrators of the crime and last Thursday he had a tip-off that Mensah was seen conveying a quantity of iron rods to an unknown destination. He said the complainant did his own investigation and found 29 pieces of iron rods in Ewuse's shop and lodged a complaint with the police who retrieved them and he mentioned Mensah as his source of supply during interrogation. Chief Inspector Azasoo also alleged that Ewuse told the police that he bought 10 pieces of iron rods for 800,000 cedis and when Mensah was in turn arrested, he mentioned Fynn, Efirm and Aboagye as his accomplices. Investigations also led to the arrest of Della who confessed buying 20 pieces of iron rods at 1.2 million cedis from Mensah and Aboagye. Source: GNA
