A series of surge suppression products, known as Sine Tamer, have been introduced into the Ghanaian market with a call on corporate Ghana to patronise the devices to stabilise their power systems and ensure increased productivity and profitability.
A former Ghana Ambassador to the US, Mr Kobby Koomson, recommending the products to corporate Ghana at a seminar in Accra today (Friday), assured them that Sine Tamer would provide good returns on their investments.
He said it was not financially prudent for corporate Ghana to allow their huge investments to go down the drain as a result of damages to their power systems caused by surges, which could be mitigated by a little investment in Sine Tamer devices.
Produced by Energy Control System (ECS), an American company, the Sine Tamer products have the capacity to mitigate electronic micro-processor failures, about 70 per cent of which are caused by spikes, transients and surges.
With their introduction into the local market, Ghana joins 200 other countries in five continents where the devices, which come with between 15 and 25 years warranty, have made huge impact in stabilising the power systems of corporate institutions and, thereby, increasing their productivity and profit margins.
The seminar, which was under the joint auspices of ECS, Aco Cellular Ghana Limited, the local distributors, and Sudden Impact Investments (Nigeria), was aimed at demonstrating the qualities of the Sine Tamer products to representatives of corporate institutions and industry in Ghana.
Sharing some perspectives on the devices, a senior electric engineer at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Samuel Nee Abbey, underlined the need for industries and households to protect their valuable electronic equipment by supplying them with good quality power.
According to him, 90 per cent of reported electrical failures were caused by power surges, adding that power surges could lead to loss of valuable electrical equipment and so “there is the need to ensure that our equipment are safe”.
The brand specialist of Sine Tamer, Mr Moses Olabiyi, advised corporate institutions and industries to be proactive, instead of reactive, in their maintenance approach.
He said power surges caused downtime and so an investment in Sine Tamer would save corporate institutions and industries huge sums of money in respect of repairs, replacements and interruptions of their power systems.
An official of Aco Cellular Ghana Limited, Mr Ephraim Kwesi Appoh, said inasmuch as power surge was destructive, “we don’t have to throw our hands in despair because there is good news; there is a solution”.
He advised electricity power consumers to take refuge in Sine Tamer for the protection of their equipment against power failures.
A senior lecturer at the Department of Earth Science of the University of Ghana, Mr Mawuli Akoto, who chaired the ceremony, lauded the introduction of Sine Tamer into the Ghanaian market, saying, it would help mitigate the negative impact of power surge in many companies and homes.
