Entertainment critic Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, aka Bullgod, has called on government to bring the ailing Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, back to Ghana to continue his medical treatment.
According to him, while Bediatuo is receiving care in the United States, it would be more appropriate for him to recover in Ghanaian hospitals, especially since the presidency has confirmed his stable condition.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on October 5, 2024, Bullgod suggested that Nana Bediatuo Asante could be treated at one of the hospitals built under President Akufo-Addo’s Agenda 111 project, noting that some of these facilities are reportedly completed and ready to serve patients.
He argued that using local healthcare facilities for such a high-profile case would boost public confidence in the country’s medical system.
Bullgod emphasised that bringing Bediatuo back to Ghana for his treatment would demonstrate the government's trust in the healthcare infrastructure it has developed.
He added that this would send a strong message to Ghanaians that their health system is reliable and capable of handling even the most serious cases.
The entertainment critic further expressed concerns about the optics of government officials seeking medical care abroad while local hospitals are being underutilized.
He stated that the practice of flying officials out for medical attention undermines the credibility of Ghana’s healthcare system.
“I learnt he [Bediatuo Asante] is in the US for treatment. We should fly him to Ghana to continue the healing since he is said to be in a stable condition. We have hospitals in the country. The Agenda 111 hospitals are there to help. He could be taken to Korle-Bu or 37 Military Hospital as well,” he said.
