SIGA Director-General visits Kumasi Abattoir

The Acting Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Mr John Boadu, led a delegation on a visit to the Kumasi Abattoir Company Ltd. to discuss strategic initiatives and to reinforce the importance of innovation and efficiency in the operations of state-owned enterprises.

Mr Boadu and his delegation were warmly received by the Managing Director of Kumasi Abattoir, Mr Alhassan Mahamadou.

In his welcome remarks, Alhassan Mahamadou stated that the visit was historic as it was the first time a Director-General of SIGA had visited the facility.

He also highlighted the company’s recent efforts to upgrade its facilities and processes to fulfil its mandate of providing wholesome and hygienic meat for public consumption. "We are committed to enhancing our capabilities to meet both local and international standards and SIGA’s support will be pivotal in achieving these goals," Mr Alhassan Mahamadou remarked.

He also introduced the team to some products of the Kumasi Abattoir including minced meat, sausages, burgers and beef brisket.

During the visit, Mr Boadu emphasised the critical role of Kumasi Abattoir in Ghana’s meat processing industry and encouraged the company to adopt innovative practices to enhance its operations. "The sustainability and growth of our state-owned enterprises hinge on our ability to innovate and modernise. Kumasi Abattoir has the potential to set a benchmark in the industry by integrating advanced technologies and improving operational efficiencies," Mr Boadu stated.

He also commended Kumasi Abattoir for always complying with the submission of their financial reports and other requests from SIGA.

He also praised the management for their efforts to turn around the company as it had seen a dramatic positive increase in its financial position.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of the Abattoir’s facilities, where the SIGA team was briefed on the latest advancements and ongoing projects aimed at improving the quality and safety of meat products.

Mr Boadu expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far and reiterated SIGA’s support in ensuring that Kumasi Abattoir remains competitive in the market.

The discussions during the visit also focused on potential areas of collaboration between SIGA and Kumasi Abattoir.

Both parties agreed on the need for continued dialogue and partnership to drive the company’s growth and sustainability. "Our objective is to work closely with entities like Kumasi Abattoir to ensure that the investments made yield the expected returns and contribute significantly to the nation’s development. We are ready and willing to support you and also provide assistance for the future," Mr Boadu added.
