The Suhum Magistrates' Court, fined Sule Abubakari, a 26-year-old shoe repairer GH¢200 (¢2 million) for stealing iron rods.
The accused, in default would go to prison for nine months with hard labour.
The iron rods were to be used for the construction of classroom blocks for the Jehovah Kapho Orphanage home at Suhum.
Police Chief Inspector S.Y. Harrison, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr E.M. Essandah that the complainant is an evangelist.
He said on September 30, the convict and two others now at large went to the premises of the Orphanage home in the night and stole 19 pieces of iron roods.
The prosecutor said Abubakari and his gang deposited the items at the site of an uncompleted building in the town.
The following day, workers constructing the classroom block detected the theft when they reported for work and during a search, the items were found deposited in an uncompleted building.
A report was made to the police and the owner of the building, one Opare Kofi was questioned, and he mentioned the convict and the two others at large as those who brought the iron rods to the site.
Abubakari was later arrested and charged with the offence.
