Shirley Ayorkor Botwe’s driver arrested

The controversy surrounding the Weija Member of Parliament Shirley Ayorkor Botwe’s vehicle that was seized about six weeks ago continues unabated. The driver of the vehicle, one Razak was arrested Friday night and 'accused of jumping bail'. But the MP rejected the charge saying when the car was taken from Razak by operatives of National Security, no charges were preferred against him. She wondered on what grounds the driver could be accused of jumping bail. Ms Ayorkor Botwe told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that charges by the Motto Traffic and Transport Unit of the Police Service that the vehicle had no road worthy certificate and insurance are unsustainable. That is because the road worthy certificate and insurance could not have been obtained without her first changing ownership of the vehicle, having bought it from the state. But “the directive from the present government asked all of us to hold on so I could not do the change of ownership to be able to secure those things they are talking about,” the MP explained. She stated when she was using the vehicle as a deputy minister, it didn’t have roadworthy certificate and insurance because it was a government property. She denied reports she was arrested at the weekend over the matter. Ms Botwe confirmed the arrest of her driver but said he was bailed on Saturday afternoon to report to the police on Wednesday.
