Renowned TV presenter and international spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi, has been appointed as an electoral journalist for the African Union (AU) elections.
Ms Abbiusi will also take on key roles in two major AU initiatives: the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and the African Governance Architecture (AGA).
Her appointment includes a pivotal position within the AU’s Department of Youth and Women in Gender and Social Affairs, where she will focus on finding solutions to the challenges facing women and youth across Africa.
Abbiusi, who is also an ex-international beauty queen from Belgium with a background in biomedical science, expressed her gratitude and excitement for this opportunity.
“I am deeply honoured to have been selected for such an impactful role within the African Union. My goal is to amplify the voices of women and the youth in governance, and to contribute to positive societal change,” she said.
Ms Abbiusi’s new responsibilities will involve consulting for APSA and AGA, leveraging her expertise across Africa and Europe to foster connections between the two continents.
With a passion for humanitarian work, which deepened during her years living in Ghana, she believes her involvement in these AU programs will further her ability to contribute meaningfully to peace, governance, and social progress.
“I believe my role in the AU will allow me to make a greater impact and continue to serve society positively,” she added.
This new chapter reflects Shalimar Abbiusi’s ongoing commitment to leadership and advocacy, as she uses her platform to bring about meaningful change on the African continent.
