A former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has urged public officers to avoid involving family and friends in government affairs.
He stressed the need for professionalism and integrity in public service, warning that nepotism and favouritism can weaken government operations and damage credibility.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Domelevo pointed out the dangers of such practices, including conflicts of interest and the risk of corruption.
He called on public officers to adhere to ethical standards and prioritize the public interest over personal connections.
“We are put in public office to discharge or prosecute the agenda of the country, not our family and friends’ agenda…Public officers must learn to separate themselves from their family and relatives when it comes to government business,” he stated.
Domelevo's comments come amid growing scrutiny of public officials' conduct and the demand for greater transparency and accountability in government, particularly following the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) report on the Airbus scandal.
