Seized cocaine not in Police Exhibit Room

The 399 parcels of cocaine that were seized by the Kibi and Nsawam police in a joint operation over the weekend are not being kept in the Police Narcotics Exhibit Room at the Police Headquarters. Instead, the parcels are being kept in the truck in which the drugs were being transported. According to a Citi FM news bulletin, checks by the radio station has revealed that the drugs are still being kept in the impounded truck under police guard. There are still unanswered questions about how 46 parcels of cocaine went missing in the Police Exhibits Room, despite the presence of CCTV cameras, and the room being under lock and key. Following the loss of the 46 parcels, the Kojo Armah Committee was set up to investigate the circumstances that resulted in the loss. The Committee after its investigations found no culprit, but named DSP Patrick Akagbo as a key suspect because he kept the key to the exhibits room. It however admitted that the officer knew little about organized crime. President Kufuor subsequently set up another three-member committee on May 24, 2008 under the chairmanship of another lawyer, Mr Kojo Zwenes to review the Kojo Armah Committee report and submit its report to him in two weeks. The Kibi and Nsawam police on a joint operation impounded the 399 parcels of cocaine in a vehicle with registeration number GT 3359 Z. The vehicle belongs to Evowe Logistics Company Ltd., located at Teshie in Accra. According to the police, the arrest of the vehicle was effected upon a tip-off. The police said the parcels of cocaine were being transported from Guinea through Kumasi. The police have arrested three occupants of the vehicle, and they are; Kofi Amenu, 30, who is the driver; Anani Kwabena 34; and Debli Kofi, 33. By Emmanuel K. Dogbevi
