Daniel Keshie Bessey, Member of Parliament for the Ada West (Sege) constituency, on Friday, 3rd January, hosted his former colleagues and schoolmates from Tema Secondary School—TOSA ’96—to a dinner and appreciation party at the Bosphorus Restaurant and Café in Labone.
The gathering was organised to express gratitude to his colleagues who had supported his campaign in various ways, including offering spiritual backing and standing by him throughout his journey to Parliament.
Mr Bessey specifically acknowledged their physical presence in the constituency both before and on election day, as well as their involvement in monitoring the elections across various electoral areas.
He reminisced about the team's support during his first attempt at the primaries, despite his loss at the time.
He was particularly moved by the team’s financial contributions during this year’s campaign, with some sending funds directly to him and others attending his fundraising events in Sege. "Words may not be enough to express my gratitude, but deep in my heart, I hold you all in very high regard," he stated.
The evening saw the attendance of numerous schoolmates, including members of the Tema Secondary School Old Students Association (TOSA ’96), as well as family members and friends. Dr. Felix Kodzo Besah Sorvor, speaking on behalf of the TOSA ’96 year group, congratulated Mr. Bessey on his victory and for showcasing Tema Secondary School’s excellence through his perseverance and success.
He noted that Mr. Bessey exemplified the true spirit of a Temascan, which is encapsulated in the motto, “Always the Best.”
Mr. Bessey took time to personally thank everyone present, beginning with his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Bessey, whom he affectionately referred to as his “dear Rebecca.”
Moving from table to table, he expressed his appreciation for their support and for honouring his invitation.
Addressing a question about the time it typically takes to become an MP, Mr. Bessey explained that it varies but usually requires 8 to 12 years of active physical presence and engagement in the constituency.
He noted that constituents now value direct relationships with their representatives and expect them to be involved in their daily lives and events.
He also highlighted the critical role of family support in the journey to Parliament, particularly for married individuals.
Mr Bessey credited his wife for being a pillar of strength throughout the emotionally and financially demanding campaign.
“She has always supported my dreams and has been fully part of them,” he said, thanking her for her unwavering encouragement and belief in their ultimate goal.
Mr Bessey reiterated the importance of alumni groups and urged people to participate actively in their old student associations.
He shared his vision for the Ada West constituency, including plans to introduce socio-economic insurance schemes to support families with needs such as funeral expenses and job opportunities.
He concluded by affirming his commitment to serving both the people of Ada West and the Tema Secondary School community, setting an example for future generations.
