President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday expressed satisfaction with the growing economic co-operation between Ghana and Spain and said Europe should see Africa as the place to promote investment.
The two continents should look into the future together through strategic partnerships and compete on fairer terms, he said when Mr Jorge Montealegre, outgoing Ambassador of Spain, called on him at the Castle, Osu, to bid him farewell.
He is leaving after a four-and-a-half year duty tour of the country.
President Kufuor asked him to ensure that his country took up the challenge of playing an advocacy role for Africa to get the continent high on the agenda of Europe.
He thanked Spain for its financial protocol with Ghana that had led to increased support in the areas of health, education, security and the fisheries.
He said the Ambassador should take credit for the strong foundation he helped to build that had led to positive evolution in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
President Kufuor said he was hopeful that his successor would come to build on this.
Mr Montealegre said he was happy with his country’s improved relations with Ghana over the past four years.
