About 80 police and military personnel have been sent to Bawku in the Upper East region to beef up security in the area.
Divisional Police Commander Peterking Jeny told Joy News that the men from Bolga and Tamale have been brought in to strengthen the night patrols in the area.
Bawku was plunged into conflict on New Year’s eve 2007 following chieftaincy disputes between the Mamprusis and Kusasis and a number of people were killed and some maimed, property worth millions of cedis were destroyed.
Despite the presence of police on the ground and a curfew imposed on the area, rampaging youth two days ago set fire to some houses and cars.
The Police commander said, there is uneasy calm in the area and he believes the extra number of security personnel on the ground would put any further trouble makers under check.
