Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh, has been presented with the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin.
On Friday, February 11, the organisers of the launch of the gold coin; E ON 3 Group, and their key partners paid a courtesy visit to Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh at the Commission in Accra.
The delegation was led by the Executive Chairman of the E ON 3 Group, Mr Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta. The other members were Mr James Adentwi Bruce, Executive Director, Access Bank, Mr Jesse Agyepong, General Manager Asante Gold Coin, Mr Festus Ofosu-Yeboah, Business Head, Adjiringanor Branch of Access Bank and Magmay Mefful, Strategy- Retail Banking for Access Bank.
The gold coin was presented by Mr James Adentwi Bruce, Executive Director, Access Bank.
Mr Jesse Agyepong expressed gratitude to Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh for his presence during the unveiling of the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on December 12, 2021.
He noted that presenting the gold coin is part of the many ways of showing appreciation.
“We are here to present your gold coin to you to attest to the fact that this is real and to show appreciation and use your good office as part of the many steps we are taking to reach the Ghanaian consumer,” he said.
Mr Agyepong further revealed that E ON 3 Group is taking the necessary steps to ensure that every Ghanaian has a piece of the gold coin by April.
“The Otumfuo’s head on the gold coin is not an end to itself. It is just the beginning of a period where every Ghanaian can own a piece of that legacy because it is part of our culture and heritage as we have it today. We have broken a road map of ensuring that every Ghanaian can get a piece of that history and we started what we are calling our roadship where leaders like yourself, the President, former Presidents, Speakers of Parliament would receive firsthand the gold coin,” he added.
On his part, Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh thanked the group for the honour done him; noting that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II deserves to be celebrated for his quota when it comes to the development of the country and the peace enjoyed by all.
“I appreciate the honour done to me and the SEC of course, for being part of the selected group of Ghanaians to receive a piece of this Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Commemorative Gold Coin. I deem it an honour and I am humbled by that gesture as well. It was a pleasure to be a part of the unveiling and let me quickly add that it was a grand ceremony. I was blown away. Well done for a very good launch.
"I think it goes without saying that Otumfuo deserves to be celebrated in such a grand way because we cannot take peace for granted and indeed without peace, you really cannot look at development. Commendation to E ON 3 for the initiative and Access Bank.”
He further gave the commitment that the Securities and Exchange Commission will throw its support where possible “to make sure that we entrench peace and development in our country.”
According to the Director-General, SEC also has a mandate of ensuring the peace enjoyed by citizens as investors are not perturbed. He explained that over the years, disruption in the financial sector has had a toll on the mental state of calmness of Ghanaians.
“One of our drives is to ensure that we have wealth creation because that is one of the ways people can have peace of mind and its something we wish to call on all Ghanaians as they think of the legacy of peace, to think of the culture of saving and investment because that is one of surest ways to have peace of mind.”
“If you look at some of the incidents that have happened over the last few years when we had the financial sector cleanup, there were pockets of agitation around and it’s all connected to monies being locked up.”
He urged the relevant stakeholders in the financial sector to go by the book.
“The mandate of the SEC is to ensure that the players in the financial sector do what is right. When you do the wrong thing, you create a disturbance. We got information from the national security indicating people getting into agitation just because of money matters.”
Rev. Ogbarmey Tetteh indicated that the Commission will continue to ensure that investors and the integrity of the market are protected.
