After 13 weeks of great entertainment and lots of heat in the kitchen, the 4th edition of Ghana’s biggest cooking reality TV show Ongalicious Ghana Cooks came to an end with the Benyin family emerging as winner.
This year’s edition dubbed the “Family Battle Edition” started with 12 families display their cooking skills in various modern Ghanaian cuisines and keenly contesting for the ₵20,000 cash prize up for grabs.
The climax of the competition was held at the Tesano Royale Hotel in Accra where the final two contestants, the Simmer Sisters and the Benyin Family took their turns in the kitchen to prepare the most Ongalicious meal.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Commercial Director for Promasidor Ghana (Producers of ONGA), Samir Sadaoui said the food industry has a huge economic potential, hence the need for culinary companies to introduce initiatives to boost the space.
“The food industry has a huge economic potential with varied career prospects, as such it is important that brands like ours gives back to our community through initiatives like this and others”
“As a leader in the culinary market, we find it imperative to lead the discussion in growing catering talents and equally provide opportunities for their economic empowerment”, he added.
The Ongalicious challenge was launched in 2015 and has since transformed many participating individuals and families giving them unique brand experiences as well as opportunities in the food industry.
The show also features influential food enthusiasts and celebrated guest who assist the main judges in awarding scores.
Category Lead for Culinary, Eva Njeri Njeru, emphasised that Promasidor will ensure that winners get adequate support to realize their dream.
“As we have done previously for all Ongalicious winners, they have been our brand ambassador. So, anything we do as a brand they support. So, we don’t leave them out there on their own. We carry them with the brand. We ensure that whatever dream they have, somehow, we are able to support them. Not just by winning the cash but what else can they do to be able to be does culinary experts in the Ghanaian economy”
Each episode of the Ongalious Ghana Cooks came with a unique showcase of rich, indigenous Ghanaian dishes spice-up with Onga.
On the night, contestants were tasked to make a three-course meal, a starter, a main meal and a dessert after 45 minutes of steaming hot cooking, contestants presented their meals to the judges for the final score.
The Benyin Family was adjourned ultimate winners of the competition. The 1st and 2nd places went to the Simmer Sister and the Team Glorious respectively.
The Benyin family expressed their utmost gratitude to ONGA for organizing the contest.
The 5th edition of the competition promises to be more exciting and challenging.
