Mr Andrew Adjei-Yeboah, Deputy Minister of Lands, Forestry and Mines, has inaugurated a GH¢500,000 (five billion cedis) office block, four quarters and two bungalows for the Savannah Resource Management Centre in Tamale.
He said the facilities were to improve the capacity of the Forestry Commission and the centre to enhance management of forest resources under Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS).
Mr Musah Abu-Juam, Project Coordinator of Savannah Biodiversity Conservation Project, receiving keys to the facilities, commended government for providing the infrastructure to enhance their operations.
Mr Adjei-Yeboah also inspected a 24-hectare mango plantation at Kuala, a village near Tamale, being financed by Global World Environment Facility about six years ago.
He asked technicians of the commission to ensure the plantation was efficiently managed for the benefit of the communities and educate the people on methods of forest conservation.
Mr Adjei-yeboah asked the people to take advantage of the project to improve upon their living standards.
Mr Abu-Juam appealed to the people to assist officials of the commission to protect the plantation.
