Little about Sarkodie’s journey
Sarkodie one of Ghana’s favourite hip-hop/hiplife artiste began his journey in the industry as an underground rapper.
In 2008, after his performance on the popular Adom FM’s rap competition, ‘Kasahare Level’, the rapper got the chance to meet CEO of The Last Two Music Group, Hammer and the only way was up.
Hammer who doubled as a producer got Sarkodie to feature on rapper Edem’s album, Volta Regime.
With that exposure, Sarkodie went on to release his official single ‘Baby’ with Mugeez of R2Bees and later in 2009 his first album, ‘Makye’.
In 2010, Sarkodie's "Push" off the album and his single "Baby" songs were ranked ninth and thirteenth on Joy Fm's Top 50 songs of 2009, respectively.
The rapper later went on to be the first to release the albums ‘Rapperholic’, ‘Highest’, ‘Mary’ and his latest ep ‘Alpha’.
‘Rapperholic’, his second studio album, earned him the title as first Ghanaian to be nominated for the Black Entertainment Award (BET) in 2012. He won!
The album also inspired what has become one of the biggest ends of year party Rapperholic. His influence also put him on MTV Base’s Hottest African MC's as number six in 2014.
Sarkodie has featured many acts worldwide including South African’s Aka, Nigeria’s Burna Boy and America’s Asap Rocky.
Years down the line the rapper invested in the fashion business coming out with his clothing line ‘Sark’ and also his record label Sarkcess Music.
The label signed rapper Strongman and singer-songwriter Akwaboah but recently parted ways with the former.
The rapper continues to inspire the younger generation. He sometimes features up and coming acts on his songs to give them the platform they need or be featured on theirs.
