Traders at the central business district of Accra say sanitation conditions have improved fairly.
They claim the heaps of refuse and water sachets bags that previously lined the streets have reduced as Zoomlion, the waste management company that collects filth in the area, now makes regular pickups of waste bins and containers.
President Mills at his inaugural address on January 7 promised Ghanaians improved sanitation.
Joy News’ Sammy Darko who interacted with the traders said although the streets had little filth, there still were tonnes hiding in covered gutters and drains.
Presidential spokesperson Mahama Ayariga speaking to Joy FM earlier Thursday said government was planning a sustainable programme to deal with waste management in the country.
The government last month held a national environmental forum to map out a plan to deal holistically with the problem and received a number of recommendations.
