Many narratives have been told and many more will be told of men who built mega-churches, gave their lives for the gospel and performed signs and wonders to propel the Christian faith.
One such story will be told of Rev. Dr. Robert Ampiah-Kowfi. It will be subtle yet powerful enough to live through the ages and revive generations.
Distinct by the Word
The first time I encountered Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi was in a Wednesday service at his headquarters church, Global Revival Ministries. I was there on assignment. My boss had proposed that we compile a profile of prominent Men of God in Ghana.
We listed Pastor Mensa Otabil, Archbishop Duncan Williams, Pastor Eastwood Anaba, Bishop Charles Agyin Asare and many more.
Rev. Ampiah Kwofi was our first target and I knew nothing about the man. All I could gather online were a few articles and his ministrations on social media. I wanted to know beyond that.
As Roberts Liardon did with his book, ‘God’s General’, I wanted to know Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi beyond the pulpit.
The longer I stayed, the more I understood that man cannot be separated from his ministry.
Many have received Rev. Ampiah-Kowfie’s ministration from the pulpit. A privileged few have received his ministry from his office and his private residence.
His life is the practical living of the word of God in a way that anyone who encounters him anywhere is ministered to either consciously or unconsciously. He is one made distinct by the Word which he has studied and built a long altar of prayer on.
You Can't Deny the Aura
I remember these words clearly from my former boss, Mr. Oppong Amponsah, “The day Papa Robert walked into my office, it felt like I had seen Jesus. I just couldn’t believe it.”
Naturally, I would have argued what he said in my heart. I could blame it on religiosity or excessive admiration for Ministers of God but I had experienced it too.
That Wednesday night, as I stood in his service he walked in. I finally understood what it meant for me to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. Two years later, I would better understand why his presence to my boss was like a visit from Jesus.
It was the same aura and unusual grace that drew many to his all-night prayer meetings at Baiden Powell. If you meet any successful Christians in Ghana, who have lived in Accra within that period, they will most likely tell you their experience from Baiden Powell's all-night services under the ministry of Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi.
I’ve heard this from Mr. Hayford Siaw (CEO of Ghana Library, Cynthia Banitamina (Real Estate Marketer and Consultant) Madam Claudia (Founder of Kudya Logistics), and many others across continents who testify of it.
From a Girl’s Perspective
To a girl who shielded her affection after the death of her father, it’s hard to explain how easy it was to experience fatherly affection from a man who barely knew my name.
With careful observation, anyone would see that his very nature comforts those who do not even know how much they need it.
It’s in his calm aura, his slow talk, his sense of humour, his infectious smile, and his humility to give attention even to the last person and treat every man from the standpoint of Christ.
The Testimonies
Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi has never been one to identify himself as a prophet nor does he project himself as one who operates in the prophetic. It was after two years of sitting in his ministrations that I can confidently testify that out of his sermons come prophecies.
Miracles that have happened in his ministration span across the African continent through Europe and America.
Tumours have been dissolved, ulcers have been cancelled, mental wellness has been restored, relationships have been saved, people on their dying beds have received new strength, his words of declaration over lives have been fulfilled, but more importantly and at the very core of his calling is many who have come to receive Christ as their Lord and saviour.
He has raised many sons and continues to grace the lives of many young ones into their calling. The notable men in ministry he has raised are Rev. Dr David Antwi (founder of Kharis Church in the UK); Prophet Nana Osei (Founder of Potters City), Prophet Samuel Addison (Overseer of EHCI), Bishop James Nanjo (Restoration City Church), Bishop Samuel Osie Tutu, Pastor John Bosco Brempong (founder of Passion-Bearers Worldwide), among others.
Naturally Intelligent
I have jokingly said, ‘Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi is so intelligent that if he chose any other profession, he would have equally succeeded.”
The man is truly intelligent. If you read his books- The Little Maid, Judah Prevailed, Let’s Pray, The Restored Anointing, Crossing the Line, etc.- you will bear witness that Ampiah-Kwofi’s mind is indeed a gifted one.
The angle he introduces to connect biblical events, and making notes of key places and dates always fascinates me. Engage with his sermons and marvel at his interdisciplinary knowledge.
He Brought East to the West
One of the historic events in his ministry is the unique grace to bring Eastern Ministers whose ministry is marked by greater works and impact, together with Prominent Ministers in the West.
In December 2023, Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi hosted the first of the ‘East meets West Conference’ which saw the ministration of Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor (ICGC Holy Ghost Temple, Ghana), Apostle Grace Lubega (Phaneroo Ministries, Uganda), Rev. Dr. David Antwi (Kharis Church, UK), and Apostle John Kimani William (Kingdom Seekers Fellowship, Uganda).
This powerful conference is set to be hosted every year at Global Revival Ministries, Revival City.
A Husband of One Wife
Where Rev. Robert Ampiah-Kwofi is in the spotlight, his wife, Mrs. Adwoa Abrafi Ampiah-Kwofi, is in the shadows planning, nurturing and caring for the team that surrounds their ministry.
Most often, I have wondered - would a man be able to bear a responsibility so great without a woman who truly understands what it means to sacrifice and is willing to relegate herself?
Akin to the Ministry of Jesus
It’s one thing to be within an atmosphere of grace with a man who has merely said yes to his calling. But to be with one who has conditioned his thoughts and ways to strictly align with the very nature of God brings you to another level of desiring intimate fellowship with God.
At this point, you are not looking for material blessings or miracles, but a raw hunger to know and love God. That is the kind of effect Rev. Ampiah-Kwofi’s ministry has had on me.
It isn’t a wonder that although his ministry has been subtle, true to his very personality, many men and women will carry the impact he has had on them onto their children, and their children to the next generation. This is why I dare to believe that this servant of God’s ministry is akin to the ministry of Jesus.
In that, there are more who know Jesus today and are impacted by his ancient ministry than there were at the time He lived through this world.
