The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has slammed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, for allegedly failing to pay insurance premium of ¢200,000 for a fleet of 92 official vehicles allocated to the A-G's office.
Sammy Gyamfi claims the anomaly occurred under the supervision of the A-G, Godfred Yeboah Dame, who heads the ministry.
According to him, the A-G has failed to ensure that his office complies with the laws of the country and is rather “throwing his weight around.”
The NDC Spokesperson in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 13, thus asked Mr Dame to ensure the needful is done before going after others.
“The reckless Attorney General and Minister for Injustice, Godfred Yeboah Dame must first take the log out of his own eye before throwing his weight about all over the place.”
“The Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice has failed to pay insurance premium of GH200,000 for its fleet of 92 official vehicles.”
Mr Gyamfi claimed that one of the said vehicles was involved in an accident leading to the death of one person which led to a compensation of GH¢266,399 against the state.
“Meanwhile, just one of those vehicles which was involved in an accident in which one person died, caused the state a judgement debt of GH266,399 paid in compensation. Talk of willfully causing financial loss to the state!”
The NDC as a party has asked the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame to stand in readiness for them.
The party said it will be holding his feet firmly to the fire of accountability over some advice he has provided to the government.
Sammy Gyamfi has already alleged that some assessed documents have shown that the Attorney-General approved the payment of fictitious judgment debts, an act that warrants an investigation.
He thus asked the A-G to start preparing his defense to the matters they will be churning out into the public domain.
“Very soon, we will be holding his feet to the fire of accountability. His conduct as an Attorney-General, particularly in relation to his advice and recommendations on some matters of judgment debt have come to our attention and in the coming days, we will address the media and by extension the good people of this country.”
“On these issues, we will be putting before you incontrovertible facts about the conduct of this Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, which are inimical to the interest of the state,” the NDC Spokesperson said on Thursday, July 6, after attending court proceedings in support of two minority MPs.
