Ghana’s introduction of a professional league in 1993 received massive support from all stake holders of the game, but 18 years down the lane, many have criticized club football management in the Premier League.
Footballers who ply their trade in professional leagues all over the world are paid consistently, as opposed to the amateur leagues.
But, concerns have been raised about the delay of player salaries by some Premier League clubs in the country.
Speaking on the Joy Sports Link last Saturday, ex-Black Stars defender Sam Johnson lamented the level of professionalism displayed by these clubs in the top flight.
“We say we are playing a professional league, can somebody tell me what makes Ghana League a professional league? When a player can go two, three months without pay! And you call this a professional league?
Sam Johnson expressed regret at what he called a haphazard league in the country which exists only in name.
