The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has charged the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to up its game in ensuring there are no leakages in year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which starts Monday.
The Association said to ensure absolute sanctity of the exam, as well as prevent a re-write, the Council must deal with all possible leakage points during the period of the examination.
Public Relations Officer of GNAT, Peter Korda stated that once this preventive measure is taken it will maintain the credibility of the examination.
He also noted the essence of keeping candidates safe while they write their exam and urged government to make available Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) in schools to guard against a potential spread of coronavirus.
On the part on students and invigilators, Mr Korda advised that strict adherence to regulations and protocols is imperative to their safety.
“The active cases may have gone down, but the virus has not been completely eradicated. It is, therefore, important that all become mindful of this and strictly observe all the prescribed protocols for our own safety and that of others,” he emphasised.
A total of 531,705 candidates are sitting for the 2020 BECE, which is 14, 374 more than in 2019. This involves 269,419 males and 262,286 females.
